Michigan basketball coach Dusty May scores major transfer portal commitment

Dusty May's having a pretty solid April.

The Michigan head coach, hired by the university on March 23, received a significant transfer portal commitment on Saturday. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, a Michigan alum, former Yale center Danny Wolf announced his plans to play for the program in 2024-25.

Last season as a sophomore, Wolf averaged 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

Yale pulled off a first-round upset over Auburn in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, and Wolf had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the 78-76 win.

His decision is the second bit of good news May's received in as many days.

On Friday, he scored a major victory when guard Justin Pippen, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, committed to the Wolverines as a high school recruit.

May took over for former Michigan coach Juwan Howard, who was fired on March 15. The Wolverines went 8-24 in 2023-24, failing to make the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years for the first time since a 10-year drought from 1999-2008.

May coached at Florida Atlantic from the 2018-19 through 2023-24 seasons and went 126-69. He led the Owls to the past two NCAA Tournaments, including a run to the Final Four in 2023.

The program received its first Associated Press preseason top 25 ranking last season and reached a school-record peak at No. 7 on the Dec. 26, 2023 poll.
